Carol Fitzsimmons MBE, Chief Executive of Young Enterprise Northern Ireland, has been awarded the coveted Institute of Directors ‘Northern Ireland Director’ award. Carol was announced as a winner at the prestigious final held at the Merchant Hotel, Belfast. The award means that Carol is now nominated for the UK finals which will take place on the 18th October 2019 at The Brewery, London.
A proud Bangor resident and daughter of the former Chief Executive of the Northern Ireland Chamber of Commerce, John Stringer, Carol will now have the unique opportunity to tell her success story to a national audience of business leaders, entrepreneurs, government and media representatives. The judging process for the finals will be completed by recognised and respected industry leaders.
Carol will celebrate 10 years at the helm of Young Enterprise this year. The charity was set up in Northern Ireland in 1984 and today works with 85% of NI’s post-primary schools. Last year alone the charity worked with around 90,000 students.
Speaking about winning her award Carol Said: “My priority has always been to deliver the Young Enterprise NI goal of providing every young person in NI, regardless of age, gender, background or location with the opportunity to develop entrepreneurial skills, helping prepare them for tomorrow and it means a lot to receive recognition for that. I am lucky to have an amazing team of passionate people around me and we work hard to motivate young people to succeed in the changing workplace by equipping them with the capabilities and confidence necessary to stand out as they progress in school, careers and in the world of entrepreneurship”.
